"Sourcing details

In Colombia the vast majority of coffee is cultivated, harvested and processed on small family owned farms.  While these producers are their own architects, designing farm management and post-harvest solutions to fit their needs, they also need strong alliances to bring their coffee to the international market and earn fair prices.  To support this system of small farm production, Colombia established the Federación Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia (FNC) to organize and support a complex network of larger regional coffee cooperatives.  These cooperatives provide producers with valuable logistical support like centralized warehouses to store dried parchment and dry mills where the coffee is prepared for export according to size.  This particular lot was sourced by the FNCs exporter called ExpoCafe and the Asociación de Caficultores Orgánicos del Cauca (ACEC).  ACEC has been organizing producers with small family owned farms for more than 2 decades to use organic practices to cultivate coffee." Colombia Tolima FTO

Although the municipality of Planadas is located in the Tolima department of Colombia, named after the volcano Tolima, it is the volcano Huila that looms on the horizon to the south. The northern foothills of this volcano in the neighboring department, with nutrient rich soils and ice cap water source, that are home to many small coffee farms throughout Planadas. Over 135 of these farms belong to the ASOPEP coffee association whose mission not only includes marketing coffee and protecting the environment, but the personal well-being of its members.
